4th Annual Henry Reed Memorial Fiddlers Convention June 9&10 Come out and join us for a weekend of fun and music at Glen Lyn Park, Glen Lyn, VA. Campling: Wed. - Sun. $20 or $10/night Admission: Fri. - $6, Sat. - $7. $10 for competitors. Schedule for the weekend: BLUE GRASS AND OLD TIME BAND COMPETITION BOTH NIGHTS. Friday night: Folk Song, Dobro, Guitar (Bluegrass), Bass, Bluegrass Banjo, AutoHarp, Mandolin, BlueGrass Bands, and Old-Time Bands. Saturday night: Make up Band, Harmonica, Claw-hammer Banjo, Old Time Fiddle, Bluegrass Fiddle, Old Time Banjo & Fiddle Duet, Old Time Bands, Bluegrass Bands and Flatfoot Dance. Violinist Alan Jabbour, former Director of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., joined forces with Ken Perlman, a pioneer of the melodic clawhammer banjo style to entertain an eclectic and appreciative audience last Friday evening at the home of Howie and Delnora Acuff.  Alan's musical selection drew heavily from fiddle tunes that he learned from the legendary Henry Reed (Delnora's great-grandfather).  Alan also shared many of the stories behind the tunes that would have otherwise been lost had he not learned them from Henry Reed.  It was the perfect combination of an eager student and a willing master.  He learned not only the tunes but the old-time fiddle style as well.  One great example is "Over The WaterFall."  The House Concert was just one more example of Alan's 30 + year effort to preserve this historic musical tradition.
